What was the menu for Princess Grace and Prince Rainier in Lisbon in 1964?

Scan  SAM_5538SAM_5539In Lisbon in September we visited the Casa Museu Medeiros e Almeida. In the dining room the seating plan of a dinner given in honour of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace .

Antonio de Medeiros e Almeida was a wealthy entrepreneur, businessman, and collector. He and his wife Margarida were great entertainers of Society , enjoying the company of both Portuguese  and foreigners. When Prince Rainier and Princess Grace came on a state visit in 1964 they were entertained at the Casa.

They liked to showcase the best of Portugeuse wines and produce.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find what exactly was on the menu.

So with a little imagination and some inspiration from Portuguese cooking and wines I have invented the dinner menu on that day.

Firstly part of my inspiration comes from a lunch in the White House in 1961.

You can see how the chef used local produce in a refined French style paired with French wines. These days the wines would probably be American.
